Perched high above Linz, the Wallfahrtsbasilika zu den Sieben Schmerzen Mariä is a striking example of Austrian Baroque pilgrimage architecture. Built from 1742 to plans by Johann Haslinger and Johann Matthias Krinner, its elegant twin-towered façade dominates the Pöstlingberg skyline. The church was designed to welcome the growing number of pilgrims drawn to the miraculous image of the Sorrowful Virgin. Inside, the carefully arranged Baroque space, rich decoration and sacred artworks create an atmosphere of grandeur and devotion.
